Hues Making News for Spring 2012

Soft pastels are associated with spring, but don't expect to see them dominating the fashion magazines this year. According to the Pantone Color Institute, the fashion colors for spring 2012 were inspired by "renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day." So expect to see vivid brights like these:

Provocative Tangerine Tango, an enticing juicy orange, is a vivacious, appealing refresher to enliven anyone's outlook this spring.
Solar Power radiates warmth and cheer, providing a jolt of energy.
Fanciful Bellflower, a distinct ornamental purple, exudes uniqueness and creativity.
Cabaret is a sensual and intense rosy-red -- an excellent choice for summer clothing and cosmetics.
Sodalite Blue, a classic maritime hue, brings order and calmness to mind.
Cockatoo is a tactile blue-green that sets spirits soaring.
Margarita is a piquant yellow-green that lifts spirits with its refreshing and stimulating glow.
Sweet Lilac evokes the fresh scents of summer, and adds a touch of romance to any wardrobe.

While the spring fashion palette boosts consumers' confidence with bold, spirited hues, it also plays to consumers' practical side with versatile neutrals.

Driftwood, an adaptable blend of beige and gray has a slightly weathered feel.
Starfish is a perfect warm summer neutrals featured in this season's top 10.

Color Your Wardrobe How do you make this spring's top colors work in your wardrobe? The Pantone Color Institutes suggests mixing Bellflower with Tangerine Tango and Cabaret for a vibrant look. Want something more subtle? Try Margarita with Sweet Lilac and Cockatoo or combine Margarita with Sweet Lilac and Driftwood for a more practical variation. Solar Power is best juxtaposed with Sodalite Blue. For a safer bet, add a natural neutral like Starfish to the mix.
